BSc (Honours) Web Development

What is Web Development?

Anytime you go to a web site or web application, such as Facebook, Amazon, YouTube, Snapchat and Spotify on your computing device (PC, tablet or mobile phone), you see the work of a web developer.   In this Level 8 programme, you will learn how to use software development to design and build applications for the web. You will design and build software to control how the web site or web application looks, how it can interact with the person using it and what happens to the any information it processes.

Subject Areas in the Degree

This programme covers a wide range of subjects which will be useful in any type of web development role such as networking, databases, web development, interactive web development, server-side web development, web applications security, law and also technology entrepreneurship. There is an opportunity to choose other elective computing modules. 

Possible Areas of Employment and Career Opportunities

You will have career opportunities in Cork, Ireland and abroad, with large multinationals and also with smaller Irish companies.  Web Development graduates work in many roles, including the following:

  • Web Developer
  • User Experience Developer
  • Back-end Developer
  • Web Designer


For admission to a programme, standard applicants must:

  • score the necessary CAO points and
  • meet the minimum entry requirements
