Dr Ted Scully

Lecturer Overview

artificial intelligenceDr Ted Scully is a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the Cork Institute of Technology. He has a BSc in Computer Science from University College Cork and a PhD from the National University of Ireland, Galway in the area of Artificial Intelligence. Ted is a member of the Ríomh research group and is the coordinator of the MSc in AI. His research  expertise is in the area of machine learning and meta-heuristic optimization. He has both led and participated in a range of multifaceted research and development projects focusing on the application of optimization techniques and machine learning algorithms (primarily classification and regression) to a diverse set of problem domains such as supply chain     optimization, load balancing in wireless networks, micro-grid management and water and energy modelling on Irish dairy-farms.

Short Description of module

Machine learning provides a means by which programs can infer new knowledge from observational data. This module will provide a comprehensive foundation in the theory, application and implementation of machine learning techniques. The module focuses on supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, specifically classification and clustering techniques.

What to expect when taking the module

The objective of the Practical Machine Learning model is to introduce students to the area of Machine Learning. More specifically the module will provide students with a comprehensive foundation in the theory, application and implementation of machine learning techniques. The focus is primarily on supervised and unsupervised learning techniques. The module will examine the lifecycle of a machine learning methodology and present the methodology involved in such projects.

Public Recordings

The first two weeks of the module will be made public:

  • Week 1
  • Week 2
