Lecturer Overview
Robert McArdle is a Director in Trend Micro's Forward Looking Threat Research team, where he is involved in analysing the latest Cybercrime threats, specializing in researching the future threat landscape, Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) and coordinating investigations with international law enforcement. Robert is a regular presenter for the press and at security conferences. He also lectures in Malware Analysis and Cybercrime Investigations on MSc modules at Cork IT and University College Dublin (UCD). He worries that his hobby and job are one and the same, and constantly wonders if "normal" people have that problem.

This course will investigate modern malware types and techniques, and the tools used to analyze, defend and recover from malware attacks.
What to expect when taking the module
This course will investigate modern malware types and techniques, and the tools used to analyze, defend and recover from malware attacks. You will learn how to Identify and contrast the different types of malware, analyse them through behavioural analysis, and also understand the criminal networks behind them. On top of this you will gain an understanding of how modern malware defences work, and each of their strengths and weaknesses.
