SIGMA has an extensive track record in applied research and development to solve real world problems. We have enabled research and commercial applications in diverse domains with a particular focus on health, life science, clinical trial, informatics and analytics.

Based in CIT's Department of Computer Science we specialise in in machine learning, cloud computing and affective computing and have published numerous international peer reviewed scientific articles and book chapters on a range of topics. Our team members sit on the editorial review boards for journals and international scientific conferences for IEEE and ACM conferences.

The activity of SIGMA based research has led to CIT’s first technology product licence (SEFTec), the first spin-out company from licenced technology (NSilico), numerous publications, invention disclosures, best paper awards, course modules, national funding (EI, SFI, IRC) and EU funding (FP7 and several H2020 projects).
