HDip in Cloud and Mobile Software Development


Cork Institute of Technology offers this unique and innovative graduate conversion programme which is designed to address the skills shortage in the ICT industry. The Higher Diploma in Cloud Computing and Mobile Software Development provides graduates from other disciplines with the opportunity to study the key principles and technologies that support the deployment of Cloud computing and Mobile applications. This part-time fully online programme will take place over 4 semesters (i.e. two years).


If you currently hold a Level 8 degree you are eligible to apply if you are employed. If you are unemployed and in receipt of a jobseekers payment (including Farm Assist and Qualified Adults of Working Age) you are not eligible for the two year ICT Conversion courses. However, if you are in receipt of other social protection payments, e.g. One Parent Family or Disability Allowance, you may be eligible for these part-time conversion courses.

on-campus requirements

This programme will be delivered fully online. Lectures are delivered using Adobe Connect and labs are available 24/7 using CIT’s world-class private cloud environment. All examinations will be held on campus in January and May each year. Students may occasionally be required to travel to CIT for weekend (Friday/Saturday) sessions during each Semester.


This intensive programme prepares students for work using the following modules (all modules are 5 ECTS unless specified otherwise):

Semester 1
Object Oriented Programming (Java)
Requirements Engineering
Network Systems

Semester 2
Principles of Operating Systems
Data Management Systems
Server-Side Web Development

Semester 3
Mobile Apps Development
Cloud Application Frameworks (10 ECTS)

Semester 4
Information Analytics
Project (10 ECTS)

The modules will be taught by CIT staff, experts from industry and other educational institutions. Modules may be substituted at the discretion of CIT, subject to approval by the validating authority.

Applications can now be made by people who are in full-time employment as these programmes will be delivered part-time by night. The successful applicants will not have to pay fees.
